Sometimes writing a pattern is about challenging yourself. This crochet headband pattern came about from me challenging myself to write a pattern using only slip stitch (and chains). I’ve never challenged myself to stick to one stitch before, especially one that’s typically not used to construct a whole pattern! Designing this headband was a super fun experience and I absolutely love the look of the finished piece.

If you’re a beginner crocheter and are just starting to pick up more patterns to work on, this is a very beginner-friendly pattern to try. The pattern is worked flat and uses just slip stitch and chains to construct a unique headband. The headband can be either sewn together at the end or slip stitched together to finish the headband.

What you need to make this crochet headband

  • Weight 3 yarn
    • I chose to use Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend which has been discontinued. Some good substitutes would be Lion Brand Re-Up, Lion Brand Coboo, or Caron Cotton Cakes. I also think this pattern would look and feel amazing made up using an acrylic or acrylic blend yarn.
  • Weight 5.5mm hook
  • tapestry needle for weaving in end

Finishing

Slip stitch or seam the two ends together to form the headband. Weave in all ends. If you prefer blocking, I’d recommend only lightly blocking (possibly spray blocking). This is a headband designed to be stretched a bit to fit your head so it will have a little give.
