It feels like I’ve been waiting forever to finally release this design and I am SO excited to finally be able to share it with you! Perfect for all the hot summer months, meet the Heatherette Bralette!

This bralette can be made to fit ANY cup size (seriously – any size). A size chart is included below to help you figure out your band size and the instructions for the cup explain how you can create a bra cup that will fit perfect for your body.

I also made a helpful video tutorial if you are newer to bra cup design. You can find it below!

If videos aren’t your thing, you can also check out the blog post tutorial here.

Now on to the details of this top!

*note that cup sizes are made to size – instructions are included below & a video tutorial can be found above* **yardage information in the chart is for the band size only – yardage information for the cup varies on the cup dimensions you make but a helpful calculation can be found below**

How to Calculate Yardage per Cup

  • Since the pattern allows you to customize cup size, the yardage will vary. You can use the below calculation to find the yardage you will need per cup. Remember that the pattern calls for two cups and that this calculation is based on the gauge given. [please see Cup instructions prior to yardage calculations]
  • Each sc made uses approx. 2” of yarn
  • Each row = approx. .24” in height
  • Calculating # of stitches to start: Once you calculate your starting chain, count from the 2nd ch on your hook to the end. Multiply this by 2 to get your row 1 stitch count. (for example, I chained 13 so I had 12 stitches x 2 = 24)
  • Calculating Total Stitches: Add up your starting stitch count + the stitch count for every row you need to make (each new row adds 2 stitches to the last. I used 18 rows for mine and started with 24 stitches so my final row had 60 sts and I added up from 24 all the way to 60 for every row in between so my total # of stitches was 738 – you may choose to use a spreadsheet or write down all your row totals).
  • Calculating Yardage: Take your total stitches and multiply them by 2 since we use 2” of yarn per stitch. Now take this amount and divide it by 36 to get total yardage. (in my example I would do 738 x 2 = 1476. 1476/36 = 41 yds)
  • Calculate for 2 cups: Multiply your total by 2 to get the yardage needed for 2 cups. (My example would be 41 x 2 = 82 yds needed for both cups)

Notes

  • Pattern is made by creating two bra cups that are then seamed to a body band. Straps are added on afterward.
  • You can find a bra cup tutorial here: https://yarnthrift.com/crochet-bra-cup/
  • Cups can be made to fit any bra cup size.
  • Body bands are made to fit up to the size listed in the sizing chart but include a cinched feature for extra support.
  • Body band should use your rib measurement, not your bust measurement.
  • Straps are made to fit so the whole piece is customizable and can be made to fit any body type.

Band:

Ch 140 (146, 180, 196, 212, 228, 244, 260)

Row 1: 3dc in 4th ch from hook, skip 3ch, sc in next ch, *skip 3ch, 7dc in next ch, skip 3ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * to last 4ch, skip 3ch, work 4dc in last ch & turn.

Row 2: Ch6 (counts as 1dc & 3ch), dc in next sc, *ch3, skip next 3dc, dc in next dc, ch3, dc in next sc; repeat from * to last 4 sts, ch3, dc in turning ch & turn.

Row 3: Ch1, sc in the first dc, ch3, *sc in next dc, ch3; repeat from * to last st, sc in 3rd of ch-6 & turn.

Row 4: Ch1, sc in first sc, *ch3, sc in next sc; repeat from * to end of row & turn.

Row 5: Ch1, sc in first sc, *7dc in next sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * across to the end of the row & turn.

Row 6: Ch6 (counts as 1dc & ch3), skip 3dc, dc in next dc, *ch3, skip next 3dc, dc in next sc, ch3, dc in next dc, ch3, dc in next sc; repeat from * across to the end & turn.

Row 7-8: repeat rows 3 & 4.

Row 9: ch3 (counts as 1dc), 3dc in first sc, sc in next sc, *7dc in next sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * across until the last st. 4dc in last sc & turn. [*stop here and cut & tie off for sizes S-L*]

[for sizes XL (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X)] Row 10-13 (13, 13, 17, 17): repeat rows 2-8. Cut & tie off.

**NOTE: if you want extra length on your band, repeat rows 2-9 as many times as wanted, making sure to end on a shell row (either row 5 or 9)**

To finish the band create a chain of your bust measurement plus 12-36 inches extra (this is to create a bow tie in the back). Once made, slip this chain in and out between the open spaces along the very top of the band (shells facing down, you should be slipping this in between the first row you crocheted where the starting chain is). Leave equal lengths of chain in the back of the band along the seam line so that once worn, you can cinch and tie to create a more supportive band.

Cup:

Measure from the base of your breast to the middle of your nipple. Ch until you reach this measurement.

Row 1: Ch1, turn & sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until the last ch. In the last ch, work [sc, ch1, sc] and then sc in each space along the foundation ch on the opposite side.

Row 2: Ch1 & turn. Sc in each st across until you reach the ch1-sp. Work [sc, ch1, sc] in this space and then sc in each st across on the opposite side.

Repeat row 2 until you reach a cup size that fits. This allows you to customize your cup to a perfect fit.

Attaching the Cups:

Lay your band out flat with shells pointing downward. Place stitch markers approximately 8” (9”, 10.25”, 11”, 12.5”, 13″, 14″, 15″) from each end of your band. (If you made cups larger than ¼ of your band width or cannot meet the above measurements, place them in the middle of your band, leaving 0-4 stitches in between your cups depending how far apart you prefer them and make sure the cups are both an equal distance from the seam of the band). For both cups, seam along the cup & band line to attach each cup to the band. You can use whatever seaming method you are most comfortable with.

Straps:

Place stitch markers an even distance away from the seam line in the back of the bralette where you want your straps to end. Measure from the top of one of the cups over your shoulder and across your back to the opposite side where the opposite stitch marker is. Subtract one or two inches (chains will stretch) and chain until you reach this measurement then sl st into that stitch marker. Repeat this process for the second strap.

Once done, tie & sew in all of your ends and you’re finished!
