I can barely contain my excitement for this crochet pattern! The Salara Pants are finally here, ready for your hooks. With the perfect wide leg design, they’re sure to be a welcome addition to your handmade wardrobe. It’s been a long road getting this pattern ready for the world but it has been well worth the wait! These pants have made to measure elements for the perfect fit and are the ultimate addition to a comfy outfit. You’ll never want to take these off once you’ve made them!

After working on my crochet loungewear set for Crochet Foundry magazine, I was super motivated to jump into designing crochet bottoms. My lounge set had a pair of shorts and I just needed something ever so slightly cozier for the winter, so, cue the Salara Pants!

About

What drove me to crochet these pants, you ask?

The idea of crochet pants is just so fun, I couldn’t resist! I’ve always been a fan of the beachy crocheted pants used as cover ups but then I thought – wide leg pants are trending right now and I love them. Instead of wearing skinny pants, pants with hip shaping and a little flair are way more my style. So why not crochet them?

The pattern itself is advanced beginner friendly. It uses basic stitching, the most advanced part of the pattern is a cluster stitch which features a variation of double crochet. The hardest part of the pattern itself is really the construction which isn’t super difficult but for a brand new crocheter, could be more challenging.

Construction

The construction on these pants is a fan favorite. And I’m the fan, lol. The pants are made top-down starting at the waist. Once you’ve reached the desired pant rise, you come to the pant split section, which includes recommended stitch counts as well as a made-to-measure feature so you’re sure to get the perfect fit around the legs.

Perhaps my favorite part of the construction, is the hip shaping in the pant rise section that helps flare the pants out a bit at the hip and prepares the bottom of the pants for that perfect wide leg design.

The length of the pants is adjustable as well. You could have Salara shorts, capris, or full pants – the options are endless. These really are the perfect crochet pants for any outfit!

Yarn

I just needed a comfy yarn to use for this pattern once I dreamed it up and Lion Brand Color Theory was the perfect fit. I strongly recommend using this yarn for your pants – it’s the perfect medium weight yarn that’s just soft enough to withstand slightly heavier wear without being uncomfortable on the skin.

My favorite part of Color Theory is the color range offered! There are literally so many options. I opted for the color Moonbeam, a neutral light gray color. There are tons of great neutrals to choose from but also some amazing more bold colors. You can see the whole line up here.

Pattern Info

Like most of my patterns, the sizing is written for women’s sizes XS-5X but the pattern also features made-to-measure elements so smaller or larger sizes are easily accomodated as well. The writing style has sizes listed out as XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X).

Yardage for the pattern ranges from 2000 to 2,470 yards depending on size (you may need more or less depending on your made to measure elements as well as any adjustments made to the length of the pants). My general rule for the sizes is to grab 2000 (2025, 2070, 2125, 2185) (2250, 2300, 2400, 2470) yards, however, grabbing one extra skein than what’s called for may be a good idea just incase you want to make adjustments as you work.

Adjustments for the pattern are super easy, and any math for the made-to-measure elements have clear explanations for you to use. Leg length is easily adjusted by adding or removing rows. There’s also an option for you to add a drawstring or elastic to the waistband of your pants for a more snug or lounge fit.
