What’s cuter on a cold day than a good headband or ear warmer? These accessories have really grown on me in my twenties. I have to say that as a kid, I flinched every time my mom tried to put a hat, scarf, or other winter weather accessory on me. I was “too cool” for them (or at least that’s what I told myself). Now though, I’m all about anything that will keep me toasty during the frigid winter days. I do, however, require them to be cute which is where the Trella Headband comes in. This headband has a super cute twisted detail in the front that just adds a little something extra. Plus, it’s so soft and fluffy, keeping me warm all winter long.

This headband is actually part of a set and the matching Trella Infinity Scarf is just as adorable. The stitch detail on this set is easy to follow along with but has a soft and squishy texture perfect to keep you warm. I love wearing this set with my long down coat and cute winter booties but it goes well with almost any cold-weather outfit.

Both of these patterns were actually very spur of the moment for me and completely unplanned. As I frequently do, I headed out to the craft store in search of some yarn and found Caron Latte Cakes. For some reason, I always stay away from cake yarns. Let me tell you, I have been so wrong to do that because I was seriously missing out. This is some of the softest yarn I’ve worked with. Its squish is incomparable to anything else. It’s safe to say I am slightly obsessed and already have another headband on my hook with this yarn.

Trella Headband Pattern

Ch 21 (21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 33) then sl st into beginning ch. (If you’d prefer a wider or thinner headband you can add or subtract beginning chs in increments of 2)

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook; *insert hook in last ch, YO and draw up a loop, skip next ch, insert hook in next ch, YO and draw up a loop, YO and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Loosely ch1. Repeat from * across until the last ch. Sc in last ch. Do not ch1 or turn. [you may want to place a stitch marker here for reference so you can count your rows]

Row 2: Continuing in the same direction, sc in first sc; *draw up a loop in last st used, skip next st, draw up a loop in next st, YO and draw through all 3 loops on the hook. Ch1. Repeat from * across until the last st. Sc in last st. Do not ch1 or turn. [Move stitch marker to new row]

Row 3-25 (27, 29, 34, 38, 41, 48) : [you can opt to make this longer or shorter by increasing or decreasing the number of rows, the more rows, the larger the circumference and vice versa]: repeat row 2.

Once you’ve achieved your desired length, cut & tie off, leaving a long tail. Lay the tube out flat, then twist the tube once over in the middle. Hold the twist in place and use the long tail to sew the ends together. Working around the outside edges (making sure to keep the tube shape), use mattress stitch to seam the tube together. Once you reach the end, secure the tail and weave in any leftover ends.

Now you have a Trella Headband!
