Who couldn’t use a good FREE simple crochet bralette pattern?! I’ve been on the hunt for a simple crochet bralette that’s super versatile to wear with any outfit. Although summer is the most popular season to wear one, I actually enjoy wearing my bralettes year round so I really wanted a great one. I didn’t have much luck finding one so I decided to make one instead (a crafty person’s favorite statement!) A great bonus for me was I actually got to use a yarn I reviewed a while back to do this project and I loved it. You can find my review here if you’re interested.

This pattern is also designed to be completely size-inclusive and rather than using a standard gauge to get a size, it’s written in a way that you’re able to use any yarn you’d like and you can use your own measurements to get a perfect fit. Everyone deserves to have the perfect crochet bralette that fits their body.

Another great thing about the pattern is its simplicity. It uses basic stitches as well as a 3rd loop stitch (tutorial link provided) to create a simplistic pattern that becomes a closet staple piece.

About this bralette:

Using my favorite made-to-size bralette cup method, this bralette is constructed by connecting two bralette cups to a wide band. The entire bralette is made-to-measure to ensure a perfect fit. Both the band and cups include instructions for you to take the needed measurements and adjust to fit those sizings. The pattern is also relatively beginner-friendly and uses simple stitches. This is a great easy spring & summer project.

Additionally, the coverage is customizable as well. If you prefer a more modest look, instructions are included to provide more coverage. If you’re going for a more open style, instructions are also included to style a little less coverage.

For this bralette I chose to work with Michael’s Stores Creme Cotton Yarn after doing a review on it, which you can find here. I absolutely loved working with this yarn and it’s so much softer than many other cotton yarns I’ve worked with before. The fiber feels so soft against my skin which made it perfect to use for a bralette or any tighter-fitting garment. I’m already looking forward to using this yarn for other summer projects (maybe even another Eucalyptus Crop?)

simple crochet bralette 1

Materials:

  • Any yarn (we recommend weights 3-4)
  • Hook: use a hook sized 1-2 sizes down from the recommended hook size for your yarn (this creates stitches with less gaps for a more supportive bralette cup & band)
    • As an example, the yarn I used measured to be about a weight 3 and I used a 4mm hook.
  • Stitch markers (4)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Tapestry needle to weave in ends

Stitch Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st – stitch
  • sp – space
  • 3rd loop
    • the 3rd loop is the loop facing you that is not the 2 working loops usually worked into. You can find a tutorial on this loop here: https://stitchesnscraps.com/tutorial-3rd-loop-hdc/

Gauge:

  • Gauge will vary depending on type of yarn used and hook size. This pattern is written in such a way that you are able to make it fit to your specific size, regardless of gauge.
  • This pattern works based on your body measurements instead of a set gauge

Now that we’ve gone through the information, we’re ready to get started!

Pattern:

We’ll start with the cups and move on to the band, seaming and straps from there. Sizing and coverage instructions are included so you can crochet your bralette to the perfect size and style.

Bralette Cups:

Measure from the base of your breast to the middle of your nipple. Ch until you reach this measurement.

Step 1: Ch1, turn & sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until the last ch. In the last ch, work [sc, ch1, sc] and then sc in each space along the foundation ch on the opposite side. [for less coverage, take away a few chains from this measurement. The more chains you remove, the smaller the cup will be]

Step 2: Ch1 & turn. Hdc in each st across until you reach the ch1-sp. Work [sc, ch1, sc] in this space and then hdc in each st across on the opposite side. [for more coverage, you can repeat this step a few more rows]

Repeat step 2 until you’re about 2 inches away from the cup fit you’d like. Follow the below pattern for the remaining 2 inches.

Step 3: Sl st 3rd loop across until the last st before the corner. Sl st in next st then [sc, ch1, sc] in corner st. Sl st in next st. Sl st 3rd loop in in each st until the end. Ch1, turn.

Step 4: Hdc in each st across until you reach the ch-sp. Work [sc, ch1, sc] in this space and then hdc in each st across on the opposite side.

Step 5: Repeat rows 3 & 4 for four more rows.

Step 9: Ch1, turn & sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until the last ch. In the last ch, work [sc, ch1, sc] and then sc in each space along the foundation ch on the opposite side. Cut & tie off.

Band:

Ch until you have a chain 2-4” less than your under-bust size. Make sure you have an even # of starting chs.

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and each st across to the end. Ch1, turn.

Row 2: Dc in first st, *ch1, skip next st, dc in next st*; repeat from * across until the last st. Dc in last st. Ch1, turn.

Row 3: Hdc in each st across. Ch1, turn.

Row 4-5: Rep rows 2 & 3.

Row 6: Hdc in first st, *ch1, skip next st, hdc in next st*; rep across until last st. Hdc in last st. Ch1, turn.

Rows 7-8: Rep row 3.

Row 9: Sc in first st, *ch1, skip next st, sc in next st*; repeat from * across until last st. Sc in last st. Ch1, turn.

Row 10: Sc in each st across until the end. Ch1, turn.

Rows 11-12: rep row 10. Cut & tie off.

Seaming:

Place your band on a flat surface, laying your two bralette cups above it with the WS facing you (WS will have the original yarn from your starting chain facing you). Measure how far apart on your body you want your cups to begin. I recommend leaving at least 1-2” between each breast and making sure the cups don’t extend too far underneath your underarm for comfort.

Use stitch markers to mark where you want each bralette cup to start and end (4 markers total). Using mattress stitch, attach each cup to the band using the stitch markers as guides. Cut & tie off, then weave in ends.

Straps (make 2):

Attach your yarn at the top of your bra cup. Chain until you have a strap long enoug that it reaches the back of your neck + 6 or more inches to tie into a bow. Repeat on the other side. Cut & tie off, weave in ends.

Attach yarn to each of the four corners of the band. Chain until you have a long enough strap on each side to reach your middle back and tie into a bow with the chain on the opposite side. Once all four straps are completed, cut & tie off then weave in ends.
