What is better in the winter than a good, cozy blanket?? In my opinion, not many things (besides the holidays of course). I am ecstatic to bring to you my first ever CAL! When I first started this designing journey I hoped I would one day be able to host a CAL of my own but it was hard to imagine actually doing. Now, I’m here and have a lovely blanket to bring to you all.
A few months ago I kept seeing all of these lovely granny square patterns. Now, I normally don’t like granny squares too much but I really enjoyed everyone’s modern takes on them. I decided I really wanted to make a blanket using multiple squares. I took that idea and ran with it, but you’ll see in this CAL that I’m not using an actual granny square pattern but 3 unique square designs that when pieced together make a super cozy winter crochet blanket.
Pin for later!
CAL Info
This CAL will run in four pieces – three for each of the squares and one for sewing together and creating the blanket itself. Each piece of the CAL will be released each weekend over the course of four weeks.
The CAL itself will run on my blog as well as on my Youtube Channel. You can follow along with either the written instructions or the video tutorials (or both!). I’ll likely also have some fun reels on Instagram and might even host a few Instagram lives while I work on some squares with you all!
The skill level for the CAL is intermediate or adventurous beginner. All stitches are easy but one of the squares does feature a take on a cable pattern which may be more difficult for beginners.
What you’ll need:
Here’s a list of everything you’ll need to join in the fun!
- Worsted weight 4 yarn – you can use any kind you like. I recommend Lion Brand Heartland and that’s what I’ll be using for my blanket.
- Yardage:
- Color A: 1300 yards
- Color B: 820 yards
- Color C: 720 yards
- Scrap yarn: You can use any leftover from any of the three colors which will be used to stitch the blanket together at the end
- Yardage:
- 5.5mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
- scissors
- measuring tape
- blocking board / other means of blocking
- tapestry needle or other tool to weave in ends
