Wondering what to get the yarn junkie in your life? Have someone that’s interested in crocheting or knitting? I’m here to give you the latest scoop on this years holiday gifts for these makers! Holiday shopping for makers just got so much easier.

The past few birthdays and holidays I’ve gotten many a yarn-related gift and have loved it. I’ve also gone looking for deals and items I’d like to add to my holiday wish list and I’ve come across some great finds. Whether you’ve been going through the craft store your whole life or are brand new to your local craft selection, I’m here to help guide you through the yarny gifts this year.

Yarn

We’ll start out here with the most obvious choice, yarn. The difficult part here is knowing what types or brands of yarn to look for. Some people prefer bulky, some prefer fingering weight yarns and then there’s the material to worry about.

As a maker, I personally love to experiment with new yarns. I also like to stick to a medium-weight yarn when yarn shopping because it isn’t too thin or too thick and you can use it to make almost anything. My recommendation when shopping for yarn as a gift is to stay in the middle, not buying yarn that’s too thin or too thick.

Some new yarns with great reviews are below. I’ve listed both yarns I’ve tried and yarns that are currently trending in the fiber art community. I believe each of these is worth a shot!

1. Lion Brand Nuboo

This yarn is the sleekest, softest yarn! I absolutely love it for so many projects. It’s great for wearables like cardigans, tops, lightweight scarves, and more. I actually used this yarn for my Lace Harbor Sarong pattern and already have more on deck for a lightweight cardigan!

2. Lion Brand Basic Stitch

This yarn is a great worsted weight yarn and is extremely soft. It’s so soft and great for any kind of project from blankets to clothing. I most recently used this yarn on my Camper Pullover. The yarn washes amazingly too so I can confirm it will create a long-lasting fabric.

3. Brava Sport

This is a great sport yarn. It’s extremely easy to work with and amazing for garments. I love this for garments that I want to be sturdy but not too bulky or warm. I actually used this yarn for my Eucalyptus Crop Top and have used it for some of my fall makes as well. This is a thinner/sport weight yarn so it isn’t too thin or too thick and it’s great for beginners and advanced crocheters alike.

Punny Mugs

I am a sucker for a good mug. Just ask my cabinets that are struggling to fit all the mugs I’ve bought over the years. I’ve found some of the cutest mugs for yarn fanatics (some I have myself and some I cannot wait to get my hands on).

Not only are these mugs adorable but they’re also from small businesses! These are all sourced from some great Etsy shops so we can all support small businesses this holiday season.

Yarn Makes Me Happy Mug

This mug is so cute and comes in 4 colors. It’s also very simple for those who prefer a more minimalist look.

I Am Sorry I’m Late I Saw Some Yarn

I’m sure we’ve all been here before – you went to the store for one thing and somehow left with yarn. Or, even better, you went for specific yarn but somehow left with 10 extra skeins. I haven’t been late to anything important because of yarn yet but I’ve definitely been late getting home because of it.

Yarn Ball Mugs

These are a favorite find of mine this year. You can use them as mugs but they’re also great as desk organizers. The mugs look like balls of yarn and have knitting needles through the handles. So adorable for any yarn-loving friend.

New Tools

You can never have too many yarny notions! From hooks to storage and more, there are so many options out there. Knitters and crocheters LOVE tools that are comfortable to use and help them get their work done faster.

Hooks

My absolute favorite hooks are Furls crochet hooks! They are ergononic and help me keep my wrist from hurting while I crochet the day away. They are also beautiful! They come in so many different colors of resin and wood.

Another huge brand of crochet hooks is Clover brand. These are also ergonomic but these have a softer rubber handle which can help with anyone who has finger pain from the pressure of crocheting.

Storage

Most people don’t think of storage when they think holiday shopping but from a girl who’s constantly looking to organize, let me tell you, add it to the list! Especially if you can find some cute storage options or a great bag for packing yarny projects.

Hook Case

This hook case is super cute and handy. When I’m at home my hooks are normally in a mug on my desk but whenever I go out, I love having a good zip-up case for my hooks and notions.

Yarn Storage Bag

I have this bag myself and it’s amazing. This was gifted to me after I started carrying miscellaneous plastic bags around in order to bring my crochet projects with me everywhere. Plus, I always had yarn sticking out of my purse. Now, I can fit 2-3 projects in my bag, tons of extra yarn, all my hooks and notions, and more! It is actually crazy how much this one bag can hold. I also love that there are holes in the top for yarn to run through. While I’m traveling, they help keep my projects organized and prevent the yarn from getting tangled.

Yarny Apparel

Some of these might look cheesy, but who doesn’t love a good pun? These wearables are super cute and great for any yarn-loving friend. Plus, some of these come in seasonal options so you can grab a tank top for the summer or a sweater for the winter!

Yarn Babe Cropped Hoodie

This is a great gift for anyone who loves simple, modern crop tops and sweaters. I love this design and have my eye on it this year. Bonus – this is a great top for us all to wear to prove yarn isn’t boring, it’s fashionable.

Sh, I’m Counting Hoodie

We all know the true pain of counting our rows and stitches. This sweater is a great reminder for those around us to be careful talking to us while we crochet.

Buy Me Yarn and Tell Me I’m Pretty

Ah, what every girls wants! More yarn (especially yarn she doesn’t have to pay for) and to be told she’s pretty. I am a firm believer that getting more yarn is a form of self care. I repeat that to myself each time I leave the craft store with sweater quantities of yarn I have no plans for.

Fiber Gadgets

This may be one of the most important categories yet! Some of these are what the kids might call “all the rage”. These are some of the most popular fiber art gadgets this year.

Knitting Machines

Knitting machines have become so popular that there are even entire Facebook groups dedicated to the various methods, patterns and “recipes” for them! There are a few different brands but below you’ll find the most reliable ones to try out. I have bought and use both of these brands and love them. I’ve also had a few duds so I can vouch that these have not let me down.

More affordably, the Sentro knitting machines come in various sizes and are very efficient.

If you’re looking for one that’s a bit nicer, the Addi machines are super efficient as well and are a little more in price.

Both of these machines are great and get the job done, I use both interchangeably during the colder seasons for beanies and knit pumpkins.

Row Counters

Possibly the worst thing knitters and crocheters have to deal with is counting rows! Many a person has been shushed as we try to figure out what row or stitch we’re on while we work. These row counters are great at helping you keep track of all your projects! I have a handful of these around my house – one for each project I need it for and extras in my notions bag and car just in case.

Holiday Shopping Specials

Here are some extra special yarny gifts from some of the most creative makers. These are sure to please yarn enthusiasts everywhere.

Handmade Stitch Markers

These makes are extremely talented at what they do. These stitch marker sets are all uniquely handmade and sure to please any fiber maker.

  • Hello Lavender Stitch Markers: These stitch markers are absolutely gorgeous. I have absolutely no idea how Reshma manages to create the more intricate designs on these stitch markers but they’re astounding.
  • Hello Gavriella Stitch Markers: These stitch markers remind me of being home on a cozy day. They’re so delicate and pretty. The whole atmosphere of this shop is cozy and will make you want to buy everything.

~Special~ Yarn

Looking for some extra special yarn this holiday season? These indie dyers have some seriously gorgeous hand-dyed yarns. Some of these makers release their yarns in batched pre-orders while others have ready-to-ship quantities available. Make sure to check their websites for details!

  • Sewrella Yarn – Ashleigh from Sewrella yarn first inspired me to make this blog back when she was designing. Now, she creates beautiful themed yarn collections that are truly one of a kind. These collections are released as pre-orders and all of the information can be found on her website.
  • Red Door Fibre Studio – Kate from Red Door designs yarn collections based on books, movies and more. She is absolutely hilarious and her social media is both down to earth and relatable. All of her yarn is so unique and you can tell the story she is trying to tell through the colorways she creates.
  • Yarn Over Floyd – Siobhan from Yarn Over Floyd specializes in natural dyed yarns. Her creations are absolute stunning and one of a kind. She uses natures beauty to dye her yarn and has so many amazing skeins. I love how many amazing colors she’s able to create using flowers and other pieces from nature.

Other Notions

Here are some other extra special gifts you can grab for your yarny friends. I absolutely love all of these and they’re great to have on hand.

This yarn bowl is gorgeous and so handy to have around. Whether you’ve got a caked up yarn or a ball going, this bowl keeps it in place as you work. I love having this around when I’m working on my projects. It’s far better than my yarn traveling around the room or couch while I’m crocheting.

Yarn Bowl

Ball winders are a lifesaver. I invested in one shortly after I started my blog because I was crocheting so much more. It has helped me keep my yarn chaos far more organized. My favorite way to use this is for scrap yarn; specifically scrap yarn that isn’t a small amount. I cake it up using the ball winder and store it away. This helps keep half-skein wonders in check instead of piling up around me and getting tangled. This is also great for hanks of yarn or yarn that comes in an oddly shaped skein or package.

Yarn Ball Winder

To add to my ball winder speech, a yarn swift is a great investment, especially for anyone who loves using hand-dyed yarn. Specialty yarns usually come in a hank rather than a regular ball or skein and they have to be caked up to use. Having a swift allows you to place your hank around it and ball it up nicely with the ball winder rather than struggle with any knots that might happen if you try to crochet or knit directly from the hank itself. It’s also far better than trying to ball a hank by hand.
